Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Vipul C. Shah, who serves patients in North Carolina.

Dr. Shah is a fellowship-trained subspecialist with extensive experience in cataract and refractive surgery, cornea and external disease, including dry eye syndrome, and comprehensive ophthalmology. He is currently practicing at Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates, P.A. in the Charlotte and Monroe, North Carolina areas.

Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates, P.A. has nearly 140 providers in almost 20 locations, bringing specialty care to the community. The practice provides comprehensive pediatric and adult eye, ear, nose, and throat care, as well as highly specialized care. These services include but are not limited to: audiology, allergy treatment, cataract surgery, cochlear implants, cornea diseases, diabetic eye care, glaucoma treatment, head and neck cancer, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, optical and contact lenses, pediatric airway care, sleep medicine, thyroid treatment, and voice and swallowing care.

After earning his undergraduate degree at Duke University, Dr. Shah completed his medical degree, his internship in internal medicine, and his residency in ophthalmology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He then went on to complete his fellowship training in cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery at the University of Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute. Shortly after, he became board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

In order to stay up to date in his field, he maintains membership with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Cornea Society, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Every year, he routinely lectures at both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons national meetings.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

In his spare time, Dr. Shah enjoys playing with his kids, spending time with his family and friends, playing tennis, and cheering on the Duke Blue Devils.
