Dr. Andersen is an accomplished cardiologist specializing in diagnosing and treating diseases of the cardiovascular system. She is a part of the team of professionals at New York Cardiology Associates in New York, New York.

New York Cardiology Associates strives to provide sophisticated and personalized care to all patients, utilizing clinical expertise and cutting-edge technology in the cardiovascular field. All of the physicians are board-certified, have been trained at the finest institutions, and are continually advancing their own skills within the ever-changing field of medicine. 

An authority on cardiovascular disease in athletes and in women, Dr. Andersen also serves as an Attending Cardiologist and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center where she is also the Director of Education and Outreach for The Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute. There, she launched a very successful community faith-based outreach program, HeartSmarts.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

As for her academic career, Dr. Andersen is a 1985 graduate of Dartmouth College where she was named the Ernest T. Saeger Memorial Scholar. She graduated with Honors from the University of Rochester School of Medicine where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and awarded the Janet. M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Award from the American Medical Women’s Association. She then went on to serve her internship, residency, and fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center where she additionally served as the Chief Medical Resident. 

A past Director of the Medical School’s cardiac pathophysiology course, Dr. Andersen founded and chairs the David E. Rogers Memorial Research Award competition for the Medical House Staff. A Visiting Professorship for Integrative Medicine is endowed in her name at the Weill Cornell Medical College. She additionally serves on the Faculty Diversity in Medicine & Science Advisory Committee.

Among her various roles, she serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Rockefeller University; the Board of Overseers for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College; the Board of Directors for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research; the International Women’s Health Coalition; and the Leadership Council of the American Heart Association’s Go Red campaign.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

Castle Connolly and New York Magazine have repeatedly selected Dr. Andersen as one of America’s and New York’s Best Doctors, respectively. She has been an on-air medical consultant to ABC World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, NBC Evening News, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Early Show, The Fox Television Network, The Fox News Channel, The British Broadcasting Company, and MTV.
