Being a board-certified anesthesiologist with an interest in pediatric cardiac anesthesia, Dr. Zestos currently serves as the Chief of Anesthesiology at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, Michigan. 

Since 1886, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan has been dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to children and adolescents in a caring, efficient and family-centered environment. A proud member of the Detroit Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan is the first children’s hospital in the state. This 228-bed facility has an international reputation in pediatric medicine, surgery, and research, training more pediatricians than any other facility in Michigan.

In addition to the doctor’s affiliation with Detroit Medical Center and Henry Ford Hospital, she serves as an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology & Director of Anesthesia Research at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Her research interests include postoperative nausea, postoperative pain, and emergence delirium.

A 1987 graduate of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Zestos went on to complete her residency in pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University in 1990. This was followed by a residency in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham & Women’s Hospital in 1992. From there, she went on to complete her fellowships in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada in 1993. 

A member of the Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists, she is board-certified in both anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology, whose mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure and temperature, anesthesiologists also measure the patient’s respiration.

In addition to English, Dr. Zestos speaks French and Greek.
