Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Ilya A. Blokh, who serves patients in Brooklyn, New York.
Dr. Blokh provides cutting-edge hematology and oncology care at his successful practice in the heart of Brooklyn, situated just across from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
All office and hospital patients are personally seen by Dr. Blokh. He personally devotes a considerable amount of time both obtaining a detailed medical history as well as counseling his patients regarding their treatment options.
Chemotherapy is given in the state-of-the-art Park Slope Medicine, which is an ambulatory care facility affiliated with Methodist Hospital. Dedicated and compassionate chemotherapy nurses help patients get through their treatments.
Growing up in the Bayview Houses of Canarsie, Dr. Blokh is proud to have attended NYC public schools. He attended Brooklyn College where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and received the Anna Berkowitz Memorial Award from the Political Science Chairman. He considered a career in law or government but ultimately chose medicine as his calling and attended SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn.
Thereafter, Dr. Blokh did his residency at Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center, and his fellowship at SUNY Stony Brook. Throughout his training, he had the privilege of working alongside some of the world’s most notable hematologists-oncologists.
While at LIJ, he worked with the great Dr. Kanti Rai, who founded the Rai criteria for CLL and recently served as President of the American Society of Hematology. Dr. Blokh traveled to the Royal Marsden in London where he worked with Professor Daniel Catovsky, head of leukemia research for the UK and one of Europe’s most renowned oncologists.
Rotating through St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan, Dr. Blokh worked with Dr. John MacDonald, who had developed the popular MacDonald regimen for gastric cancer, and Dr. Sundar Jagannath, who has been a national leader in myeloma research. He also spent time at Lady of Mercy Hospital with Drs, Peter Wiernik and Janice Dutcher.
Taking an interest in the psychologic and social aspects of oncology care, Dr. Blokh received training in those areas on several occasions at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, internal medicine & hospice and palliative medicine, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
On a professional level, Dr. Blokh is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer, the New York Society of Medical Oncologists & Hematologists, the American College of Physicians, the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group, and the Kings County Medical Society.
Among his hospital affiliations include Mount Sinai Brooklyn, New York Community Hospital, and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.
