His leadership extends to various prestigious programs at Yale New Haven Hospital, including Abdominal Imaging, the Body Imaging Division, the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, and the Pancreatic Diseases Program.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Burrell holds a prominent academic position as a Professor within the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at Yale School of Medicine. His role involves mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows in the intricacies of bioimaging sciences, diagnostic radiology, and interventional radiology.

Dr. Burrell’s journey in medicine began with the completion of his Medical Degree at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in 1966. Following this, he pursued further training through an internship at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University from 1966 to 1967, a residency in internal medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County from 1967 to 1968, and an additional residency in diagnostic radiology at Yale New Haven Hospital from 1970 to 1973. 

In 1974, Dr. Burrell achieved board certification in diagnostic radiology from the American Board of Radiology, solidifying his expertise in the field.

His commitment to excellence, coupled with his passion for education and patient care, exemplifies his dedication to advancing the practice of radiology. His leadership at Yale New Haven Hospital continues to inspire and shape the future of gastrointestinal radiology, setting new standards of care and innovation in the field.
