After earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1992, Dr. Cancel-Mendez went on to obtain her medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamón Pueblo, Puerto Rico in 1996. She served her internship and residency at Hospital de Veteranos (VA Caribbean Healthcare System) in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 1996 until 1999.
