Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. West started his new position at Village Medical April 2022. He leads the clinics innovative Skin Cancer Clinic. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, such as dermoscopy and serial photography, Dr. West can thoroughly examine suspicious lesions and moles on the skin and monitor any progress that may occur in them over time. If skin cancer is detected, he can treat the majority of cases in the primary care setting, if referral is indicated, he will help patients navigate to the best specialists in the area. Arizona leads the nation in skin cancer rates, and Dr. West is the only physician in the state who holds a Master of Medicine in Skin Cancer Management.
Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. West obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Arizona in 1991, before completing his medical education and residency in internal medicine at the same educational venue in 1996 and 2000, respectively.
Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases.
