Behyar Zoghi, MD, PhD, FACP is a Transplant Physician, triple Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. He practices with the Adult Blood and Marrow Stem Cell Transplant program at Texas Transplant Institute and Methodist Hospital, a member of the Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Network.
Dr. Zoghi received both MD and PhD from Texas A&M College of Medicine. He subsequently completed his internship and residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Hospital System in Dallas, and completed his hematology/medical oncology fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Also during his fellowship, Dr. Zoghi conducted very important research focused on microRNA as a new treatment for chemotherapy-resistant breast cancer. He was awarded a patent for this novel therapy in breast cancer, which led to him receiving the Texas Society of Clinical Oncology Award.
His interests include the most recent developments in cancer therapy including immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and CAR-T cell therapy. His holistic approach in cancer therapy was the subject of a cover page article in MD News magazine.
In conjunction with his clinical duties, continual medical education has also been an important passion of Dr. Zoghi. As a Chairman of Graduate Medical Education Committee at Methodist Healthcare System, he has been involved in the quality of education and work environment for fellows and residents in all programs. Dr. Zoghi is also an assistant professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Zoghi has won numerous awards such as Texas Super Doctor (2019), Early Career Physician Leader of the Year Award by American College of Physician, Texas Chapter (2019); Arrival Award: Beacon of Light (2019), and one of Top 20 Impact Makers Honorees (2020) just to name a few. He has received the distinguished honor of being named Fellow of American College of Physicians

What can be done for anemia?
first we need to know why he is anemic. It is due to hemoglobinopathy or thalassemia or bleeding or iron deficency anemia. If iron deficiency, then need to find out why he is iron deficient. He needs to be seen by a hematologist. READ MORE
Why do I have blood clot in my left leg?
multiple causes: from trauma, cancer, imbalance between cloning factor and anti-clotting factors. Clot that you see might be petechia or superficial phlebitis. usually deep clot is not visible to eyes, you may experience heavy and edematous leg rather than clot in skin. see your PCP READ MORE
Can the dengue virus remain in my blood stream?
usually virus is not stay in the blood. if you are bitten again, as you body makes antibody to the virus, then makes second infection different than the first one which is more severe. Could coughing up blood be serious?
There could be due to multiple reasons. coughing blood if you are smokers, then could be due to lung cancer. If patient gets bronchitis or pneumonia can have string of blood with sputum as well But given the fact you have that plus nose bleed, first you need to get CBC with differential. an imaging from the Chest to rule out any pathology. Frequent nose bleeding needs further evaluation as well. It can be due to low platelet (multiple causes), dryness in the nostril and manual manipulation, deficiency in blood clotting factors, and etc. Please see your hematologist. READ MORE
What is the recommended treatment for hematoma?

Is blood cancer hereditary?
anytime individual gets blood cancer in multiple generations, then germ line mutation status needs to be tested. such as mutations in ASXL1 has been reported in father and son with acute myeloid leukemia. new leukemia predisposition syndromes, including ANKRD26, GATA2, PAX5, ETV6, and DDX41 has been reported (Blood,2016; Dec2nd). There are many syndrome predispose individual to leukemia: Fanconi anemia, problem with Telomere gene length and mutations, Trisomy 21, RASopathies (NF1, Noonan syndrome). I would recommend you to ask your doctor to send the germ line mutation panel and somatic mutation panel (next generation sequencing if you have some of old slides and pathology blocks from your father record) and monitor you closely. Why do I feel so weak even though my blood counts are all normal?
anemia is one cause of fatigue, you need to be further evaluated for other common causes such as hypothyroidism, B12 deficency, viral infections. low blood Na, dehydration, low blood sugar, toxin, further evaluation needed by your PCP. READ MORE
Is turmeric really effective in controlling the blood flow?

What are the precautions to be kept in mind for those on blood thinners?
the major issue is fall precaution and bleeding risk. You can check HAS-BLED Score for Major Bleeding Risk and if high risk, then do your best to keep her safe from falling and accidental injury. Can I donate blood if I am diabetic?
Yes. If you have no complications of diabetes such as eye, kidney, blood vessel disease and your disease is well controlled with diet and medications, then it is ok to donate blood. Patients with type 2 diabetes can be at risk of falsely lowered HbA1c after blood donation. This could lead to a wrong interpretation of their diabetic control by their PCP.
