If I could rap well, my lines would be: “I’m a conflict wrapped in a resolution. I’m a conundrum wrapped in an oxymoron. I‘m strongest after being knocked down. I’m as loyal as I am vicious.”
As you can see, I am not a rapper, but, I do love rap. It’s a form of poetry and meditation that speaks to my heart and generates solution focused thoughts amidst my anger or resentment. The vibe and word and momentum inspire feelings of freedom while I’m contained in my car in traffic, and, joyful bliss, loud and proud, during my happiest times.
My top two playlist songs, right now, are Square Dance by Eminem and Wreckless Love by Cory Asbury. (I know! Polar opposites on the surface but similar messages). Take a moment to consider those songs.
Last week my favorites were Blessings by Big Sean and Drake and Battle Scars by Lupe Fiasco. These artists express what I‘m feeling and thinking in the moment with an eloquent edge to my heart and ears and words that I can’t find but want to express.
Rap imitates life and expresses adaption, success, evolution, and creation to those who can truly hear and appreciate the message. Rap, for me, is a rhythm that propels movement. I vibe to it and it elevates my mood because it reminds me of where I’m from and how far I’m growing and going. If I can’t find the words, it moves my body, which stimulates my mind and pushes me toward release and resolution.
Rap inspires progress, success, gratitude, self-love, determination, conviction, rising up, using anger to bred success, breaking ties with those who pull you down, and promoting the people that elevate and motivate you, rebirth, renewal, the importance if love, family and support...The list is endless. Rap is my safe haven for releasing anyone, anything or any thought that is toxic and holding me back. It’s verbal journaling. Listen to the words, feel the emotion and hear the healing aftermath of release.
