Mauricio Elizondo

Physical Therapist | Sports

As an athletic trainer and physical therapist, as well as a former national team swimmer, Mauricio Elizondo understands injured athletes. At 18 years old, he suffered a shoulder injury and had his appendix removed (yes, both happened at the same time!) that forced him to withdraw from his swimming national championship meet that year. Frustrated by being sidelined, his passion to understand the human body and injury began as he started rehab to get back in the pool for the 2004 Olympic trials.
Mauricio continued following this passion as he earned his Bachelors in Science in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from Oregon State University and his Masters in Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Idaho. He furthered his education and training by earning his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine with a certification in manual therapy.
Mauricio spent 10+ years in professional baseball, working in the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays organizations. In addition to Performance Sport Physio, Mauricio currently travels with the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour, the men’s professional tennis tour, as a physiotherapist.
All of this experience has helped Mauricio in understanding that the biggest fear of all athletes is missing time from the sport and activities they love. He has faced many of the challenges you face today, including busy schedules, nagging injuries that seem to not get better, and losing hope thinking no one can help you. He knows what it is like to fear getting hurt again and never getting back to the activity, sport, or workout that you love. Mauricio understands that people want to get out of pain quickly to get back to what they love to do with transparent explanations and useful recommendations.
Unfortunately, our health system right now is in crisis, and most solutions to problems involve pain medications, injections, “rest it to feel better”, and a lot of financial burden on people. This not only drains you economically, but emotionally as most of the time these solutions just don’t work.
Mauricio’s goal is to keep active adults and athletes in the game, doing their workouts, and being active for life. That is why he started Performance Sports Physio - to help more people and to make sure everyone gets the answers they deserve!
If you want to re-gain control of your life and get back to the sports and activities you love, Performance Sport Physio is the place for you!
