Winback Therapy
As an athletic trainer and physical therapist, as well as a former national team swimmer, Mauricio Elizondo understands injured athletes. At 18 years old, he suffered a shoulder injury and had his appendix removed (yes, both happened at the same time!) that forced him to withdraw from his swimming national championship... more
Winback Therapy is a form of TECAR therapy which stands for Transfer of Energy Capacitive and Resistive. The capacitive and resistive component of TECAR therapy refers to the electrodes used during the treatment that create either a non thermal or thermal current, respectively. Winback utilizes a high frequency current with the primary purpose to stimulate the body’s natural repair mechanisms to jump start the healing processes. One thing that makes this different from other treatments that utilize a current, is that the frequency can be altered through a range that allows our therapists to better target superficial or deeper structures based on the individual, their injury, and treatment plan. It can also be adjusted to use in both the acute and chronic phases of injury.
What are the benefits of Winback Therapy? Winback can utilize thermal settings that create vasodilation of the blood vessels which allows for improved oxygenation of tissues, helps to remove waste from the injured area, and increases cellular metabolism that is vital to healing. This all combines to improve tissue healing and to speed up the body’s natural healing processes to try to again, speed up overall recovery. It can also provide an analgesic effect by disrupting nerve impulses which can block pain sensations delivered by nerves allowing for improved pain relief.
What can I expect with Winback Therapy? Your therapist will set up the area to be treated with 2 electrodes - one is fixed in place and will stay in contact with a nearby part of your body throughout the treatment while the treatment electrode will be used over the area to be treated and can feel similar to a light massage. You will feel gentle warmth to a deeper heat but it should not get too hot. Depending on the settings used during your treatment, you may feel mild muscle twitching that is not painful.
What conditions can be treated with Winback Therapy? Winback can be used for a number of orthopedic injuries, in both the acute and chronic phases, including low back pain, neck pain, frozen shoulder, epicondylitis, muscle strains - just to name a few.
