10 Common Problems with CPAP Machines
Problem 5: There are feelings of claustrophobia when wearing the gadget
Due to the position of the machine’s wearable parts on the face, some users might feel claustrophobic.
Solution/s:
Start small and gradually use more parts of the equipment
Similar to the solution in Problem #2, this solution can be accomplished while awake. The mask should be practiced on first. This can be done by putting the mask solely close to the face. Then, the mask should be worn with the straps. Once more comfortable, attempt to turn on the CPAP machine while holding the mask and the attached hose to the face. Move on by securing the straps to the face as well. The final step is to go to sleep while wearing the mask and turning the machine on.
Reduce anxiety with relaxation exercises.
Anxiety due to CPAP use can be lessened with the aid of relaxation exercises. One such exercise is the progressive muscle relaxation.
Get a different size or style mask.
If Solution A and B did not work, the problem might go away once another size or style of mask is selected. The masks with the less coverage are recommended for those facing claustrophobic feelings.
