New Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Lupus
The difference between mild, moderate and severe cases
For the purpose of a therapeutic approach, it may be further classified as mild, moderate or severe lupus. The mild case does not involve the disease of internal organs, and there is a minimal risk of any damage or scarring. Moderate cases would have to be treated aggressively to avoid long-term damage to internal organs. In severe cases of lupus, there is a threat to life and would often require potent immunosuppressive therapy.
People who are suffering from lupus are regularly monitored for flares, drug toxicity, and damage to various internal organs. They may periodically give blood tests for renal and liver function and may also get tested for a heart condition, or other blood disorders.
