Looking at screens before bed can lead to insomnia

If you are struggling with insomnia or sleep deprivation, you should take a closer look at your habits before sleep. Many people end up watching tv, browsing the web, or playing on their phone right before bed. Studies have shown that these things can be very detrimental to sleep patterns and could potentially disrupt someone's circadian rhythm. Researchers believed this is caused by screens emitting a certain blue light that forces the body to think it isn't tired and shouldn't go to sleep.

Your brain won't get sleepy if you're doing other things in the bedroom

Many sleep experts believe that the behavior someone exhibits in the bedroom could be affecting their sleep. Experts say that doing things in your bed during the day like web browsing, reading, or watching tv could be tricking the brain into thinking that the bedroom is for those activities and not sleep. Most professionals recommend only using your bed for sleep, cuddling, or sex. That way, your body is trained to know that your bedroom is where you are supposed to fall asleep.

Your bedroom might be more polluted than outside

Studies have shown that your bedroom may contain air that is 60 percent more polluted than outside air. This is commonly due to the bedroom being a sealed environment with poor ventilation. The fact that you are breathing this air in while you are sleeping (which is approximately 1/3rd of your life) can have some very negative consequences. If your bedroom has poor ventilation, consider getting an air purifier that will clean up some of the air that you are breathing in.

Not making your bed is good for your health

Kids everywhere may love this next fact. It turns out that making your bed can attract dust mites and bedbugs which can cause bacteria buildup and other harmful effects. Studies show that an unmade bed tends to provide warm and dry conditions that are not suitable for bed bugs and mites. Considering these little creatures can cause asthma, breathing problems, and other illnesses, it might be worth it to stop making the beds every morning.
