Horse-Based Therapy Proves to Benefit Multiple Sclerosis Patients
Hippotherapy and the brain
When a patient has attained their balance and begins receiving the therapy and completing the exercises, the horse will start to walk. What benefit does this have? The motion of completing therapy while the horse is walking begins to acclimate the brain to the process of completing functions while walking, even though the horse is walking instead of the patient. If a person has been unable to walk for a period of time, this process prepares them for the basic movement again, as it may have become unfamiliar in the interim.
