How Common is Autism?

According to a recent survey, 1 out of every 52 children who attend school is autistic. The rates of the disease are constantly increasing, and the disease has trippled in the past decade, not only in the U.S but all around the world.

Boys are more affected

When we study different ethnic groups and regions, we reach a common point that tells us that boys are more affected than girls. It has been estimated that boys are affected by autism five times more than girls. One out of every 42 boys is an autism patient, while one out of 189 girls are autistic. 

Rapid growth

Autism has affect 3 million people in the U.S. so far, and millions more across the world. A report suggests that the disease is growing rapidly at a rate of 10% to 17% every year. It is one of the fastest growing disorders in the U.S.

Diagnosis

As it can only be diagnosed by carefully observing the social behavior of a person and there are no tests or examinations available, diagnosing autism is not easy, especially diagnosing autism in its early stages. In addition to this, the late diagnosis can lead towards late treatment which increases the strength of the disease. It could be one of the reasons in the rapid growth of the disease as more and more people are being affected. The problem is that they are usually not diagnosed in earlier stages.
