All About Julia, the First Muppet with Autism

Julia brings attention to people with autism

Julia also displays other common behaviors of children with autism, such as jumping up and down when she gets excited and is being sensitive to loud noise. Rather than being confused and questioning Julia’s behaviors, her Sesame Street friends accept her and even make it fun for everyone. While she hops up and down in excitement, the other Muppets join her and even make a game out of it. The writers say that they wanted to show how easy it could be to interact with children with autism.
