Physical Therapist Questions Slipped Disk

After a slip disc when can my mom start physiotherapy?

My mother suffered from a slip disc and is on bed rest. I am worried if she doesn’t start moving about then her body could become stiff. When can she start with physiotherapy?

ASAP.
Did she have surgery? Regardless, bed rest is rarely indicated- it puts her at risk for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli. Some therapy can probably be begun immediately- particularly instruction in how to move with limited aggravation of pain. The initiation of other therapy will depend.
She should start as soon as possible.

Hi,

She should start PT as soon as possible as PT will help her with her mobility.

She can start some for of therapy right away unless otherwise suggested by the doctor.
The best one who can tell your mom when she should start PT is her treating physician. Each case is different, it depends on what symptoms she has and how severe her pain level is.
After having a slip disc, the patient needs to have physical therapy. That could include some pain management modalities, also gentle stretching exercises and range of motion for 4 limbs, so lying down is not recommended for a long time.

“Slip disc” is really a misnomer. Our discs don’t slip and our bodies are robust, strong, and resilient. You are correct that it is important to keep moving. Schedule and visit with a trusted doctor of PT in your area ASAP to help get her moving again.
