Dermatologist Questions Allergic Reaction

Allergy or irritants

I've been having a reaction to doing my nails. I want to know if it's an allergy or if I've had an irritation that I've not been letting heal. I soaked off some polish in acetone a few months ago and each time I do my nails now my skin gets itchy with weepy bumps. I've been using this product for years with no reaction and even when I keep the nails on the skin does heal at the same rate as when I remove them. This only started after I soaked them in acetone. When I reapply they're mostly healed, the skin is just still slightly flaky.

It sounds like your skin is reacting to the acetone or other nail products you’ve been using. Even though you didn’t have a problem before, acetone can sometimes irritate the skin, especially if used a lot. The itchy bumps you’re seeing are signs of irritation or an allergic reaction.

To help your skin heal, try avoiding acetone and other strong nail products for a while. If it doesn’t get better or keeps happening, it’s a good idea to see a dermatologist.
