Can I give my dog allergy medications?

My dog has seasonal allergies. Can I give my dog allergy medications?

Yes! You can give your dog allergy medications. I have personally given my own dog Benadryl. I like to go off of giving your dog 1 mg of benadryl per lb they weigh, given once or twice a day depending on severity (i.e. if your dog weighs 10 lbs, giving them 10 mg of benadryl in the morning and, if severe, another 10 mg at night but no more). If that fails, I would recommend taking your dog to see their primary care doctor or a dermatologic specialist. They may prescribe you other medications if you see reddening and loss of fur on the paws and belly and/or nose, such as Apoquel or cyclosporine for atopic dermatitis.
