Can a fracture move in a cast?

I broke my hand and now I wear cast. I wonder if a fracture can move in a cast?

Casts are placed with the goal of preventing a fracture from moving significantly. However, fractures can definitely move within a cast, especially if you are using the hand.

Yes, it can. That is why the doctor will tell you to come back once a week for several weeks in order to X-ray the fracture, to make sure it has not moved in the cast.

Yes, a fracture can move or settle in a cast if it is an unstable fracture. That is why you need to be closely followed by your physician while you are in the cast and get serial X-rays. That being said, there are fractures that we know are stable and do not need to be followed so closely.
