Can an ear infection be fixed at home?

I have an ear infection. Can an ear infection be fixed at home?

It Depends on how severe it is. If its just in the ear canal and there is no drainage, you can possibly clear it up with some good cleaning with an antiseptic and repeat as needed (remember - NO Qtips!!!) If it is in your inner ear (as in behind your ear drum), You will probably need some antibiotics if its severe. You can't get to the infection if the eardrum is intact. If its burst and you have drainage, you need to see someone for sure.
If it is viral there is a possibility it will resolve on its own. If it is bacterial, no. So, if you are having greenish drainage and pain you will have to get antibiotic ear drops to resolve the problem. Hope this helps. Thank you Rashida Biagi, BSN, RN
