Can hearing loss be reversed in kids?

My daughter has hearing loss after infection. Can hearing loss be reversed in kids?

If the decreased hearing is just from the ear infection then often it will improve or reverse but it depends. Often with ear infections in kids, the decrease hearing is due to the fluid in the middle ear. If this is fully treated then the hearing usually improves. In some kids they don’t get rid of the fluid completely and the hearing is still affected. This is often when an ENT can be consulted for possible ear tubes which will then assist with fluid and therefore hearing. But this is only the case if the hearing issue is from the above. Good luck.

Immediately after a middle ear infection it may take 3 to 6 weeks for the fluid in the middle ear to completely resolve. If hearing has not returned by 6 weeks you need to consult your doctor.
