“Can my child eat after a dental cleaning?”
I have a 13 year old child. I want to know can my child eat after a dental cleaning?

If they have applied fluoride, it's better to wait 20 min then start eating or drinking, but if fluoride was not applied, it should be alright to start right after cleaning.
Yes. If your child had a fluoride treatment, then some treatments require waiting 30 minutes before eating or drinking (typically recommended).
Yes, however if topical fluoride was placed after the hygiene visit then it is advantageous to wait at least an hour before eating so that the fluoride can be absorbed into the teeth.
Yes, they can eat. Unless they’ve had fluoride placed on their teeth and instructed to wait.

Hey, Great Question. If your child received fluoride treatment, it is best advised to wait at least 30 min prior to eating. This will allow the fluoride to activate.
Great question. After your checkup and dental cleaning, the hygienist will apply fluoride varnish. We recommend that you do not eat or drink for 30 minutes so that the fluoride is better absorbed by your teeth.
In most cases, a Fluoride treatment is given after a teeth cleaning. If so, you may be asked to wait a half hour before eating. That may also depend on the type of Fluoride received. Some Fluoride/Varnish does not require that you refrain from eating. That is a good question to ask your dental provider.
The simple answer is yes. In the past some dentists recommended waiting 30 minutes for the fluoride to work better but newer research showed that 90% of fluoride uptake was in the first minute. So you really don’t have to wait.
