Really excellent question! Generally, anxiety might crescendo to a panic experience or a dissociative experience. Not that often will it progress to some psychosis.
Hope that’s helpful!

No, these are two different disorders and anxiety does not cause psychosis. It is possible, however, to have co-occurring disorders. What you may be referring to is when someone has very severe anxiety it sometimes results in panic attacks that have symptoms of psychosis, however, this is not real psychosis because the person is not losing touch with reality. The symptoms of anxiety psychosis will decrease as the anxiety decreases, unlike actual psychosis.
Hi,
Thank you for your question. Psychosis can be brought on by mental health issues such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, but severe anxiety can trigger it as well. Some people who suffer from severe anxiety and have panic attacks or anxiety attacks as a result experience symptoms of psychosis. Although some people with schizophrenia suffer anxiety, it is impossible for people with anxiety disorders to develop schizophrenia as a result of their anxiety disorder. Anxiety sufferers should be reassured that they cannot develop schizophrenia as part of their anxiety state, no matter how bad the anxiety becomes. The symptoms of schizophrenia and the deteriorating course can be linked to changes in brain structure and
functioning, which are entirely different from those associated with anxiety. True psychotic disorders include schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, schizoaffective disorder, brief psychotic disorder, and delusional disorder. Like anxiety, major depression can also provoke psychotic features. Certain substances, such as meth and cannabis, can induce psychotic symptoms. And medical conditions—a brain tumor, for example—can sometimes lead to psychosis as well.
Whereas true psychotic disorders are treated with antipsychotic medications, this type of treatment is not appropriate for psychosis induced by an anxiety disorder. Because, in this case, the symptoms of psychosis were triggered by an overwhelming episode of anxiety, the appropriate treatments, including medications, target the anxiety itself. For psychotic disorders and for anxiety disorders with psychotic features, individual psychotherapy is very important to help individuals manage stress and develop healthy coping strategies. Because treatment approaches differ depending on the causes and triggers of psychosis, an accurate diagnosis is absolutely critical.

Hello and thank you for your question,
Psychosis is not a symptom of anxiety. Also, I am not aware of any research that indicates that one can get psychosis from anxiety.
