You can, but I would not recommend it. Propofol will make the experience much, much more pleasant. That is how I had my colonoscopy done :)

It is possible to have a colonoscopy without anesthesia. It is much more comfortable for you when sedate. Ask your endoscopist if it may influence his/her ability to obtain the same information during the exam asleep versus awake. That is an important question. It is a risk benefit question for anesthesia depending on your preoperative risk factors as well. Speak with your doctors to obtain the best answer. Yes you can, but this is rarely done because most people have discomfort or pain during the procedure.
