“Can you have an implant without a bone graft?”
I have a missing tooth and want to replace it with an implant. Can you have an implant without a bone graft?

Hi,
If you have enough remaining natural bone, you may have an implant without a bone graft. The first step is to evaluate the bone with a 3D xray to be able to measure the bone. Please let me know if we can assist you further.

Yes, an implant can be placed without a bone graft, not always, this will
depend on some factors. Every patient is different.

It depends on the amount and condition of the existing bone. Your implant
surgeon would make a decision on that.

It is possible, however, the amount of bone in the site determines the size of the implant "if" one can be placed in the site. Sometimes the bone is necessary to allow for enough support for the implant.
Yes, but that depends on the quality and volume of bone in the area where the implant is to be placed. If the doctor placing the implant determines that the bone is not adequate to place an implant, then he/she will recommend grafting prior to placing the implant. You don't want to spend thousand of dollars placing an implant that fails due to inadequate bone.
Implants can be placed depending on the amount of bone remaining. For an implant to be successful and stable has to be surrounded by a specific thickness of bone. Thickness of bone remains present if at time of extraction grafting is performed. A CBCT, 3D Xray can be taken to determine the amount of bone present and planning can be performed accordingly.

Yes an implant can be placed without a bone graft ,if there is sufficient height and width of bone present. Often a graft is placed in conjunction with the extraction of a tooth to insure that the proper amount of bone is available for a future implant. Sometimes it is possible to place an implant immediately in the extraction socket and only graft the space around the implant.
