The answer to your question is: it depends. There are many factors that go into how a denture fits. A denture that fits well, and was made well has what we call good retention. That means the denture will stay in place without adhesive. However, if a patient doesn't have enough bone or a well-developed ridge, the bone holds the denture, then a little bit of adhesive might be used to help secure the denture to the ridge. Only use a little bit of adhesive or else you will forever change the fit of the denture and have to wear adhesive all the time. It is always best to learn how to wear the denture without adhesive. Wearing dentures successfully without adhesive can be done if you train your muscles and tongue to keep the denture in place and not dislodge them.

No, a bridge or crown does not need a root canal prior to placement. In fact, in the case of a bridge, the long term prognosis for the bridge survival is greatly diminished if one of the teeth that holds the bridge has a root canal.
