At least for 24 hrs prior, no smoking.

If you getting local anesthesia, should be okay. Some patients are nervous beforehand and they smoke to calm them down. Are you talking about just cigarettes? If you are talking about marijuana that can be conflicting with the anesthesia and you should tell your dentist.

You can, but it lowers the amount of oxygen your red cells can carry. Perhaps you could consider chewing nicotine gum, or use a nicotine patch, as these options give you the nicotine without the risks of smoking.
