Cat bite?

Hi, a cat just bit me. The bite is slightly blue and swollen but there was no blood - the teeth didn't penetrate my skin. Should I be concerned and go get a shot?

It actually sounds pretty benign to me; however, the first 24 hours will tell you a LOT about what's going on. If it progresses run don't walk to the urgent care or ED.
You may have more of soft tissue trauma/black and blue, if the cat didn't really break the skin.
Cat bites can be dangerous because cats (primarily outdoor cats with contact with other felines) harbor a pathogen called Pasteurella multocida in their saliva that can be injected into the bite wound via sharp canine teeth. Bites on the fingers/thumbs are especially concerning. Diabetic and immunocompromised patients are at increased risk.
Thanks for the question. You do not need an injection if the skin is unbroken, but have it examined to be sure.
