Neurosurgeon Questions Neurologist

Cervical spine analysis?

C4/5 mild broad based disc protrusion is present resulting in the anterior anterolateral effacement upon the thecal sac. With facet arthropathy there are findings of severe left and right neural foraminal compromise.

C5/6 broad based disc protrusion is present resulting in mild anterior anterolateral effacement upon the thecal sac. There is evidence of severe bilateral neural foraminal compromise due to the extent of disc protrusion paracentrally and laterally in association with facet arthropathy.

Have degenerate disc disease diagnosed back in 2000. Not bad enough to get anything done. But now is making arms and fingers going numb and tingling. Can't lift arms above my shoulders without severe pain.

I'm scheduled for neurosurgeon but have steroid shot scheduled before appointment. Based on the information above do you think the steroid shot will help or is it too damaged that I probably will not see relief?

I had the same problem. Steroid shots did nothing and had to get decompression surgery and spinal fusion. Follow up with your neurosurgeon and it should provide significant relief and improvement.
A steroid shot may help the pain but probably won’t be able to eliminate the other symptoms.
That is an impossible question to answer. It may help, or it may not. If it does not help, then you know surgery is your only option left. If you have focal weakness or myelopathy, not just pain and tingling, then that should be addressed surgically. Steroids alleviate pain.
