depends on the extent of the decay
It depends on how big the cavity is. Come times if the cavity is too big and there is significan tooth structure missing then a dental crown is recommended to protect the tooth.
It really depends on the extent of the decay. The decay needs to be removed and the inner tooth needs to be restored. The purpose of a crown is to support a tooth that is unable to take the brunt of the chewing and parafunctional forces after the decay is removed (in this instance).
You would need to be examined clinically as well as an X-ray to determine
the extent of the decay
That will depend on how big the cavity is and the strength of the remaining tooth structure.
It depends on how structurally compromised the tooth is from the decay and
any missing parts of the tooth or areas that have already been replaced
with previous fillings. If more than half of the tooth is missing,
decayed, broken on has crack lines running through it it should receive a
crown. If the cavity has reached the nerve and the tooth requires Root
Canal Therapy it will need a crown as well to structurally reinforce the
tooth so the remaining tooth structure doesn't shatter. -Dr. Bishop

Hi,
That will depend on amount of damaged structure. Being a biomimetic dentist, if applicable, I prefer inlays or fillings to more invasive full coverage restorations , like crowns.
Hope it helps!
Depends on how big the cavity is and how many tooth surfaces are affected.
