Sunglasses are important...LASIK or not. UV damage is cumulative. The sooner a patient starts wearing sunglasses the better.
You don't need sunglasses after LASIK, but you do need to wear protection over your eyes for the first 24 hours to protect the flap, so it doesn't move. Sunglasses are helpful since your eyes will be sensitive to light for the first 2 - 4 hours after the procedure. You can wear clear protective glasses for the first 24 hours, if you prefer, but sunglasses tend to be more comfortable. You will not need to wear sunglasses long-term after LASIK, but you should - to protect your eyes from UV damage; we all should do that. Hope this helps, Nancy A. Sunglasses are good regardless of LASIK . Sunglasses with UV A and UV B rays are important for protecting our eyes . LASIK Def causes more eye sensitivity to sun rays so yes you will most likely need them .
