All Influenzas are caused by a virus. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses, only bacterial infections. Antibiotics could be ordered by your healthcare professional if you show signs of a secondary bacterial infection, in addition to a viral influenza infection. Some viral medications can be ordered to reduce your viral infection symptoms, but none will cure it, and the virus will run its course.
