Braces will help align teeth in a more desirable alignment. However, if it is not followed by wearing retainers, there maybe relapse and your teeth may eventually shift back and cause problems.
Yes but you will need retainer
When done correctly, braces place your teeth in a more harmonious location with your jawbones and facial muscles. The crowns of your teeth (the part of the tooth in your mouth is called the crown) are placed within your jawbones and are generally placed over your roots (the part of the tooth inside your bone). Although this is a stable position for the teeth to stay in, you must wear retainers to hold the position of your teeth. If you do not wear retainers, while you sleep, FOREVER, your teeth will gradually shift as they remember their original positions and seek to return there. Your tooth position is also affected by facial growth. So if you complete treatment before you finish growing it is especially important to continue wearing retainers every night.
I do not believe that anything is permanent; even diamonds can be sheared by another diamond. However, if you wear your retainers and have good oral posture and swallowing habits, you will maintain that new smile!!!
Braces can be used to improve the alignment of your teeth. However, your teeth will shift to some degree after orthodontic alignment with braces. This is called "relapse".

After treatment, your Orthodontist will provide retainers to minimize shifting post-treatment. Shifting will still occur, typically to a small degree, but wearing retainers will minimize shifting to preserve the alignment you've achieved with braces!
Teeth aren't permanently attached to your mouth with braces. They are simply guided in a way to make them straight. ... However, there are some situations that could occur that could turn straight teeth into crooked teeth.
