Do they put you to sleep to drain an abscess?

I will have an abscess drainage. I want to know if they put you to sleep to drain an abscess?

They can drain an abscess without putting you to sleep.They can also put you to sleep if you would like.
Typically they do not fully sedate to drain an abscess in a private dental office. However if the abscess & infection is more advanced & extends from tooth into the neck area and becomes life threatening then hospitalization and sedation is warranted.

If it is a dental abscess you will not necessarily be put to sleep to drain it. You will need to discuss your options with your dentist.
