“Do they put you to sleep when getting braces?”
I'm nervous to get my braces on next Wednesday. Do they put you to sleep when getting braces?

Getting braces is a non-event and no need to be nervous many patients doze off on their own while we place the attachments.
Putting braces on is not at all painful (it’s like gluing a gem to your nail). There is absolutely no need to be asleep.
Absolutely no need to be put to sleep. The process is painless. You may feel some pressure on the teeth when wires are put in but the real soreness begins a couple hours after the appointment when the body reacts to tooth movement. Be sure to take some pain medication prior to the appointment and continue doing so for a couple days.
You should not be nervous about getting your braces. I have not heard of anyone putting anyone to sleep to place braces. Frequently during the procedure, however, many patients are so relaxed that they do fall asleep while I'm working.
Typically, one is not 'put to sleep' to have braces placed. The process is very quick and painless, though it can be uncomfortable for some as you will have a lot going on in your mouth! Some folks can't get comfortable or stop fidgeting which increases the probability of the braces not sticking to the teeth or coming off later, while others will fall asleep during the procedure. It's best to let your orthodontic team know of your apprehension and even suggest that they break the initial appointment up into multiple appointments where a portion of your braces are placed at each visit. Or you can ask about Clear Aligner Therapy which of course doesn't require actual traditional braces!
It is not necessary to be put under any type of general anesthesia or IV sedation to have braces put on.
