Do you need a blood transfusion after open heart surgery?

I am a 64 year old female. I want to know do you need a blood transfusion after open heart surgery?

1 Answer

Not necessarily. There is something called hemodilution whereby your own blood is diluted with electrolyte solution. That is admitted to the patient during and after the procedure. For your information, Jehovah’s witnesses have open heart surgery and they do not take regular blood transfusion.
