Does epilepsy cause anger issues?

My husband is epileptic and he also has anger issues. Does epilepsy cause anger issues?

Yes, both epilepsy and its treatment can cause “neurobehavioral”problems. You could review the medications he is taking with your neurologist and also perhaps get a neuropsychological opinion. Finally, underlying structural problems especially in children can give rise to both epilepsy and neuropsychiatric problems. Please discuss with your neurologist. 


Rarely, people with epilepsy can have emotional seizures or anger episodes between seizures. Also, some people with epilepsy have a specific type of depression which includes anger. Please discuss this issue with your epilepsy physician.
