“Does going under anesthesia damage your urinary system?”
I am a 20 year old male. I have an issue with urination and need surgery. Does going under anesthesia damage your urinary system?

Anesthesia does not damage the urinary system, but being very sleepy can make your bladder not work well on a temporary basis. Discuss your concerns with the anesthesia personnel.
It is not, however, when you are put to sleep your intestines and your bladder also go to sleep. If you have trouble going to the bathroom without anesthesia, you may have more trouble when you start to wake up. We typically make sure that you void before having the surgery. There’s about a 5% risk that you may need a catheter if you cannot go to the bathroom after anesthesia. This typically resolves in 24 hours.
