I will have a root canal. Does root canal weaken tooth?

Slightly, in exchange for removing the infection and saving the tooth from being pulled. Dr. Totonchi
No. The root canal work removes the nerve and nerve connections which are all soft tissue. The bone remains intact. A small portion of bone is also removed but should not be enough to weaken the tooth. After the root canal therapy it might be advisable to have a crown placed on the upper portion of the tooth. Your dentist could provide you with choices of how to restore the tooth after the root canal has been accomplished. However, if the tooth has been fractured prior to the root canal therapy, it may be a total loss. Your dentist should be able to determine that during the therapy. DENTIST
