“Does teeth cleaning hurt after a root canal?”
I got a root canal and every time I clean my teeth it hurts. Does teeth cleaning hurt after a root canal?

Dear Reader,
Thanks for the question. A tooth that has had a root canal, should not be sensitive as a general rule. If your tooth is hurting when your teeth are being cleaned, something is going on. Why did you need the root canal in the first place? Was it cracked, had a cavity into the nerve? How long ago did you have it done? It can take up to nine months to heal. Was the tooth restored with a crown or a filling? Does it have a post? As you can see, there are several variables to take into account. I suggest you talk to your dentist or the endodontist who performed your root canals and have them try to determine the cause of your pain.
Hope this helps.

A tooth that has been root canaled should not hurt with a cleaning. If the tooth in question is sensitive, check your bite. If your bite is still high, the periodontal ligaments (PDL) that hold the tooth in the bone can still be inflamed/bruised feeling. If bite is fine, have your endodontist reevaluate to ensure all canals have been filled to apex or 1mm from the apex.
