“Does the bulge go away after hernia surgery?”
I am a 45 year old male. I want to know if the bulge goes away after hernia surgery?

The bulge should go away. Sometimes you can develop a collection of fluid (called seroma) where the hernia was and this can look like a lump. This seroma will go away with time
Often after hernia surgery the bulge is there temporarily while the swelling goes down. Sometimes there is a fluid collection as well. This will go away
Hi,
As a reply to this email, first, I would like to know if you are talking about a hernia in the groin area called "Inguinal hernia," or a large hernia in the belly region, which is a hernia caused through abdominal muscles and fascia, and is called "ventral hernia," which causes a larger bulge in the belly.there is also "umbilical hernia," which is again through weakness in the fascia behind the belly button. All these hernias, when repaired, will make the bulge go away for sure, but if associated with obesity, an abdominal hernia repair may not appear to give a flat appearance, even if the hernia is repaired due to obesity of the abdominal area.
Thank you,

The bulge will typically go away after surgery, but your abdominal wall or groin will almost never return to "normal" afterwards. There may always be a slight weakness, bulge, or deformity, even with surgery.
