Facial swelling?

My right eye regularly swells up, almost to the point of closure. Sometimes it is accompanied by a headache but not always. Sometimes it lasts a couple of hours, but I am currently 4 days on the latest episode. It makes it hard to see out of my eye. This has been happening for 10 years, but my insurance is terrible so I haven't seen a doctor. At one point I questioned if it was related to a dental issue, but I was able to get the dental issue fixed.

I would recommend seeing an ophthalmologist. If you are not able to do this, then I would start a daily diary recording anything that comes in contact with your eye on that side. It could be a contact allergy. This could be from your detergent on your pillowcase, eye makeup, hand lotion that you may rub your eye with, hand sanitizer, and so many things. If it is itchy that could also be a sign of a contact allergy. Dental issues CAN cause the eye to swell. But you said that you have had your dental issues taken care of. However, since this has been happening for a while I would take this seriously. You need to get this seen by a professional because if it is related to an infection, it is life-threatening if it spreads into your bloodstream or to your brain. The daily diary that you do will be helpful to your physician as well so bring that with you. I urge you to at least go to an urgent care facility or maybe even a county health department at least. Good luck and stay well.
Could be Pre septal cellulitis . Pls go to your eye specialist
A complete ophthalmologic exam should be performed to determine the cause of your symptoms.
U should have it examined clinically with a dentist so an X-ray can be taken and evaluated thanks
I don't know. But it may be very serious. This may be the time to bite the bullet and have it checked into before it's too late. Perhaps start with someone who can take a panorex of your head and rule out anything they might see. You will probably need a CAT scan or MRI of the head area. If your income is low enough, perhaps you could apply for Medicaid or through the Marketplace for insurance? Maybe there's a public hospital nearby where treatment is income-based? Good luck.
If you have had facial swelling intermittently for the past ten years, then you should make an appointment with a medical doctor. There are many systemic conditions that could cause your symptoms and those need to be professionally evaluated with a thorough exam and medical history. As Optometrist, we are considered primary Eyecare providers and we can evaluate and treat your eyelid and eyelid swelling. But if you have facial swelling you may need to make an appointment and see a secondary healthcare provider like an M.D. for proper treatment.
