Hand/finger injury?

I've bent my index finger way too far back. I heard a pop and felt it give, It bent backward and away from the middle finger. Almost the whole hand swelled for about a week. After 2 weeks most of the swelling is gone. It’s swollen at the index finger knuckle and middle finger knuckle at the hand. It has severe pain to touch or move.

Thanks for sharing your finger issue with the FATD community. Please allow me to share my thoughts, tips, and suggestions regarding this issue.

Fingers are very complex and delicate body parts. If it has been persistently swollen and painful after an injury like the one you describe, and ongoing for 2 weeks, then I would suggest getting an x-ray to see if there is any bone involvement. Even if there is not. Sometimes there are some soft tissue structures that get torn or injured. The inflammatory response has been pretty robust (still painful and swollen at two weeks post-injury), and you heard or felt a ‘pop’ and a give; something certainly tore or stretched out. I would suggest getting an x-ray and seeing a hand specialist. The risks are persistent stiffness and pain in that digit, or if the joints are involved then it can lead to arthritis in the future.

I hope this helps. I hope you heal well and feel better soon.

Hello, you may have torn one of the tendons, or you may have fractured one of the "finger bones", which would explain the swelling and such. An orthopedic surgeon or a hand surgeon would be the place to start with this, or even on urgent care where you could get some x-rays.
