That depends on the type of surgery you are having, if there are any weight bearing precautions, among other things. Your surgeon will most likely recommend a specific post operative brace for protected weight bearing if you will be weight-bearing on that leg, and depending on the exact procedure you will be undergoing.

Discuss with your surgeon. Use of braces for more then few days should be avoided. Long term use of brace’s weakens the muscles around the joint and lead to worsening of joint pain in long term. Stronger the muscles lesser the pain, weaker the muscles more the pain.
