Headaches after bowel movements?

After a bowel movement, my wife gets sharp throbbing pain in the back of her head on the left side. Normally it goes away after an hour or so, but it has hung around all night and hasn't got any better.

Visit a doctor for these symptoms please.
That doesn't sound like a headache. It seems more likely a strain of the muscles in the back of the head/neck. There is no direct connection between a bowel movement and a true headache. A thorough history needs to be done on your wife to get more information about what is going on exactly and what the cause might be. It is doubtful that a GI cause explains the pain in the head,
