The only reliable way to diagnose an ear infection is with otoscopy, which is a fancy word for looking at the eardrum with an instrument called an otoscope. While just a few years ago doctors treated all ear infections with antibiotics, we have found that frequently the infection will resolve without them.
Decreased hearing, ear pain, ear discharge. Need ENT to look at ear.
