Place your hand very softly over the heart area with only a soft cloth or without any clothing, keep your hand very still without moving any finger or anything and count the bump or a trivial jump and count and confirm again.
It is really hard! I might try and put your hand on your babies chest over their heart and see if you can feel it. You will need to count it for a full 30 sec to a minute. This is not something I recommend. Talk to your pediatrician about your worries
Feeling baby’s pulse in neck or arm for 1 minute.
In general, the easiest is you can feel the pulse, or use a stethoscope. Count for six seconds then multiply by 10 you get the rate per minute. so 16 beats in HR of 160 bpm. It can be tricky to count. Your pediatrician or your baby's nurse can teach you a technique that works best for you.
The easiest way is to put your ear on their chest or purchase an inexpensive stethoscope from the drug store and listen. You can then count the pulse for one minute or for 30 seconds and multiply by two. There are monitors that can count a baby’s pulse but many are expensive.
