“How can I find out what allergies my newborn may have?”
My newborn baby is 3 months old. How can I find out what allergies my newborn may have?

Hi, we typically don’t test newborns this early for allergies. We assume they may have milk protein allergy if they have eczema, fussiness with feeds and blood in stool. We usually test a little later about 6 months of age since they are requiring venous blood draw and it’s quite difficult at their age to obtain one at the laboratory. Please talk to your Pediatrician about milk protein allergy before you do any testing. Thanks!
You will have difficulty finding an allergist who will test a baby that young. The most common allergy in babies is to cows milk, One would need to get a good history of your baby’s symptoms and when they occur. If you are nursing, you might try avoiding milk products for a month to see if that helps. A good history is important. Talk to your doctor.
